About Us

Spackenkill High School is a four-year public high school located in Poughkeepsie, New York, offering a strong college preparation program. Vocational programs are offered through Dutchess County BOCES Career and Technical Institute. Thirteen Advanced Placement courses are offered throughout the year. The school population is 490 with over 60 faculty members.

SHS is a three-time NYS Reward School and nominated for US Education Department Blue Ribbon School.  Ninety-five percent of our graduates attend a diverse group of colleges, including Ivy League. In 2018, US News & World Report named Spackenkill High School among the Best High Schools in the United States, Silver Level. In recent Niche ratings, SHS was rated #1 out of 13 high schools in Dutchess County.

Spackenkill students advance to state and national levels in such competitions as Odyssey of the Mind, Science Olympiad, American Computer Science League, American Mathematics Competition, and Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. SHS students are National Merit and Presidential Scholars and have advanced to the top tiers of the Siemens, Regeneron, and ISEF Competitions.

A large proportion of the district’s residents are well educated with a strong commitment to our students and their education. One of the largest IBM Corporation facilities in the country is located within the district. Vassar College, Marist College and Dutchess Community College (DCC) are located within 10 miles of the high school.
