About Us

The Spackenkill High School Library provides students and faculty with materials for research, enrichment, and relaxation. Non-fiction and reference materials support the curricular content areas of the school, and are available in both print and online formats. The fiction collection provides students with a wide array of classic literature to support the curriculum, as well as young adult literature for pleasure reading. The Library subscribes to numerous magazines in both print and online formats to support classroom assignments, as well as for leisure reading. Thanks to the PTA, we now have MP3 players that can hold downloaded audiobooks and be checked out for leisure or assignment-related listening. Ebooks are now accessible directly through our library catalog, and our graphic novels collection is growing. Come in and check out (literally) the wide array of resources we have waiting for you!

Staff: Ashley Grillo  is the Library Media Specialist for the Senator Jay P. Rolison, Jr. Library at Spackenkill High School. She is assisted by an aide, who provides student supervision and assistance.

Contact: The Library and its staff encourage interested and concerned participation in our activities. Recommendations for materials and suggestions for improvements are welcomed. Mrs. Grillo may be reached by telephone at 845.463.7810 or via email at [email protected]. Materials recommendations may also be made through "Suggest a Book" on the main page of the library website.

Visiting: The High School Library is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each school day. Late hours are generally held Monday- Thursday from 3pm-5pm. Students may visit the Library freely before and after school, or during lunch periods and study halls with a pass. Students will also spend class time in the Library Media Center performing research for various subject area classes. Instruction is delivered by both classroom teachers and the library media specialist.

Borrowing: The loan period for most materials is three weeks, and renewals are usually available. Students receive weekly overdue notices in homeroom, followed by a letter sent home to parents after the third notice. After four overdue notices for a given item, the student may be asked to provide payment for a replacement copy and its processing.

Student Responsibilities: A student's presence in the library indicates purposeful quiet work: doing homework, studying, reading, searching for and using materials, browsing independently for supplementary reading, etc.

Home Access: Home access to library media center resources is available through the Spackenkill High School Library website. Some subscription databases may require access codes which are available in printed form from the Library Media Center and at the top of the Databases page. Please contact us about any problems with accessing resources from home.
